Home Improvements that do not need to Cost the Earth

worthing garage doors

There are a number of ways to make life easier for you in the home. They can include the purchase of a number of labour-saving devices and maybe even the installation of electric garage doors. Sussex and Worthing home owners who have a little money to spend will have several options to choose from, so here are some things to think about when your personal bank balance appears to be on the healthy side.

1)    Cook up some treats in a new kitchen

There are so many good reasons to invest in a new kitchen, especially if you’re one of those people who love to cook. In recent times, many of us have tried in vain to match the culinary efforts of Delia Smith, Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver, but this can become a reality if you have the right equipment and the best appliances. A new kitchen won’t be cheap, but it will certainly prove to be rewarding.

2)    Tidy up the garden

If you spend plenty of time in your garden during the summer months, why not make some long-term improvements? Garden furniture can make the whole environment far more welcoming and far more comfortable, and there are some wonderful bargains to be had when shopping inline. On a hot summer’s day, there are few things more relaxing than reclining on a comfy sun lounger.

3)    Electrics Garage doors that make life easier

electric garage doors sussexA long day at work can be exceptionally tiring, so why not take some of the stress away by purchasing electric garage doors? Worthing is one of those towns which have a vast number of garages, and if you do not have to get out of the car to open the door your arrival at home can be so much simpler. This is a particular boon when it is late at night or when the weather is wet or cold.

4)    Bring the cinema right into your home

We all know how costly a trip to the movies can be, especially when all the family want to go. These days, you can upgrade your TV for less than you think, and if you also buy surround sound speakers you can enjoy the full cinema experience. Whether you are a fan of musicals, comedies, rom-coms or action films, you can settle down on your sofa for a night at the pictures without even going out.

When looking for a Worthing or Sussex Job, ask about the Fire Doors

Fire Doors Sussex

It may not be ion the top of your list of priorities when you're job hunting, but checking out the health and safety of the place you may end up working really is a smart move.  Getting hurt in your first week can put paid to you you prospects for a long time to come, so simple things like checking out the fire doors can really tell you a lot about your new prospective bosses.

When you are job-hunting, you will have a number of fixed criteria which you will want to match to your own desires. Many of us cannot pick and choose too much when offered a position, of course, but if the new role ticks at least some of your boxes, then so much the better. One aspect that may not appear to be a top priority simply has to be taken seriously, and that is health and safety.

Sussex Fire Doors Are Not Optional

If you are offered a job by a conscientious employer who takes such matters seriously, the chances are you will be told on the first day where to find the fire doors. Sussex is home to a number of excellent employers, but there are also some which are rather more casual about such a serious issue. Hearing this information on day one is crucial, because it could end up saving your life.

The problem for many new starters is one of trust. After all, if a company is lax about such issues, it surely implies that bosses care more about some issues than they do about your personal safety. Because of this, it’s vitally important that they inform you of the whereabouts of fire doors. Worthing workers are fully aware, in most cases, of what to do in the event of an outbreak of fire.

Make sure you can do your job safely

It goes without saying that other safety matters are also important, of course. You will need to be told where any relevant external assembly point might be, for example, and you should be made aware of any machinery that you are not allowed to operate. In the most caring of companies, you will almost certainly be asked to attend training courses which will make your day a far safer one.

If you are on the search for a new job at the moment, you may need to draw up a list of the plus and minus points of any role. While some may appear to float your boat at first sight, it may be that they don’t seem as suitable upon a closer look. Many men and women draw up a check-list when they begin their search, so they can be sure that their quest remains on the right track.

We are being told that the recession is all but over now, and that the green shoots of recovery have already started to show. This is likely to stimulate the job market in the coming months, so there’s a reasonable chance that the number of available vacancies will be on the increase. If this is the case, we may find that applicants will be able to be pickier than ever before.

Your Garage - More Than Just a Car Store

A growing number of property owners in the UK are looking into garage conversion in a bid to create a larger home, but if you were doing the same what would you use the extra space for? Here are some suggestions which may give you something to think about, especially if you don’t currently use the place for storing your car.

An Extra Bedroom

garage bedroom conversionThis is perhaps the most common reason for a conversion, especially for young parents of expanding families. The first step in such a process is usually to arrange garage door repairs Worthing home-owners know about the importance of using experienced professionals for this. Once that’s done, the serious job of designing a brand new room can start.

A Music Room

If you have a son or daughter who is a skilled musician, you will know all about the importance of practicing. A properly sound-proofed garage can be the perfect environment for drummers, guitarists and trumpeters, giving your budding Springsteen, McCartney or Jessie J a chance to improve without annoying you or the neighbours along the way.

A Garage Door Art Studio

garage music roomAnyone who loves to paint will know all about the therapeutic qualities of this enjoyable activity, but finding a peaceful haven has always been something of a problem. A converted garage could provide the oasis of calm that’s required to produce masterpieces, but it’s worth remembering that good quality light is a must, so windows may need to be installed during the process.

A Worthing Office

garage door repairs sussexIt seems more and more people are working from home these days, and that’s why the creation of a new office in the garage is such a good idea. First and foremost, you need to carry out any necessary garage door repairs. Worthing residents will often choose to work from home if they have the option, in order to avoid having to travel into town every day.

A Garage Playroom

garage door repairs worthingIf your garage is attached to the house, it may be the ideal location for a child’s playroom. Obviously, the room would need to be warm enough for the youngsters, and safety would have to be the number one priority, but it’s certainly an achievable project. The kids could make plenty of mess here, and the parents wouldn’t have to worry too much about tidying up at the end of the day.

Don’t Let Fire Ruin Your Business - Fire Doors Sussex

fire doors and security productsEvery business owner knows all about the difficulties facing the modern commercial world. While revenue and profits are always close to the top of the agenda, consideration has to be given to the protection of assets as well. This is especially true in regard to the property in which the business is operated, because without it the whole company could go under.

Minimising potential problems can prevent them from occurring at any time in the future, and that’s why fire protection is such an important issue. There are a number of precautions which can be taken to help reduce damage caused, and one of the most effective is the installation of fire doors. Sussex is one of those areas in which business owners have been particularly cautious.

fire doors worthingWhen a fire takes hold in a commercial location, the damage is often more than just the destruction of a property. Further damage can be caused if the company is unable to continue to offer goods or services to customers. This recovery period is a crucial time, and those organisations which lose clients may find they never come back.

Customer retention needs to be a number one priority

It’s vital that during these times every effort is made to ensure customer retention. Rebuilding a business after a fire is always going to be difficult, of course, but it can be soul-destroying if consumers decide to go elsewhere instead. For this reason alone, contingency plans should be in place anyway, even if a fire never occurs.

It goes without saying that larger companies, especially those which have more than one business premises, will usually be better equipped to ensure a smooth customer experience. Single-location businesses such as shops will find it much more difficult to cope. Thanks to fire doors Worthing businesses can help to minimise their risks as well as their levels of disruption.

If you are a business owner and you have been worried about the potential of damage caused in the event of a fire, you need to start taking precautions now. Make sure you have adequate extinguishers, for example, and ensure fire doors are installed where necessary. Avoid build-ups of rubbish around the property, and ensure every member of staff is aware of what to do when a fire starts.

Hidden Security Doors Sussex

Here's something a bit out of the ordinary if you're thinking about how to keep a special room safe and secure.  Rather than just turning it into a fortress with window grills and roller shutter doors, how about just hiding it away completely from prying eyes.

 Hidden Doors Vs Security Doors

Stately homes and castles are famous for having secret passages and hidden doors, but more amd more people are taking the theme for more modest homes, the kind you can find in any town like Worthing or around Sussex.  All it takes is a little imagination, and a skilled craftsman and builder at your disposal, and you can create clever little cubby-holes in just about any house you like.

Here's a selection of our favourites.....

Mirror Secret Door

security doors sussex

So simple, yet really effective.  While the door’s closed you think you’re just looking at a normal mirror, but press in the correct place and the whole mirror swings back for you to step outside.

Fake Book Case

security doors worthingA classic idea in a modern setting.  The books may not be real, but as you pass by you would never know the difference.

roller shutter doors

Hidden Mirror Safe

A variation on sneaky mirror trick, this time hiding a safe. This may not be a normal fitting for a routine Worthing detached property, but it is a great place to keep your priceless collection of vintage Star Trek episodes.

Anne Frank’s Hidden Bookcase

History fans will probably recognise this as it's one of the most famous hidden doors you'll ever come accross. This is where Anne Frank and her family hid for almost two years to avoid capiure by the Nazis during WWI.  The hidden apartment where they lived is behind a bookcase.

Maybe not an original idea, but for larger properties around Sussex this is great for creating quiet (and private) cubbies and study rooms. The great thing about this one is the books aren't fake, It's actually a fully functional bookcase and cupboard.  .

security doors in worthingStaircase Hidden Entrance

This is definitely one that will fool most people. Instead of a door the staircase is the hidden entrance, with the room or garage tucked away behind.

Pool-Room security doorsPool Room Hidden Door

Look closely at the panelling in the back corner.  It’s like something out of the Cluedo game – I go with Colonel Mustard and the Iron!

sussex and worthing securitySecret Wall Door

Another classic which doesn’t even pretend to be something else.  It just relies on completely blending in with the wall it's cut into. Difficult to get right, but when you do can be very effective.

roller shutters worthing securityHidden Doors in Sussex Floors

If you're lucky enough to have a cellar, there are a couple of clever ways to hide the fact.   Shown here is a trapdoor disguised as an ordinary door mat, and another under some plain old laminate flooring.

Wine Rack Discretion

Not normally as source of little secrets (it tends to make most people a lot more talkative), it's the same idea as the book-case, but is the kind of distraction stops people even wondering if there is more to it.

The irregular shape and rough edges are a great way to fool exploring eyes.  Clever and functional.

Here’s an option for the more aesthetic – incorporating the hidden door in with the decor.  If you’re really clever with how lines on the picture fit with edges of the door, they can be really tricky to find – even for the people who live there.

07-armoire-spread-ss-650x487Wardrobe Hidden Room

It’s straight out of the Lion the Witch and Wardrobe stories - a wardrobe that you step through into a secret room (or world)!

06 - Sliding-fireplaceFireplace Secret Door

Now, this is taking the hidden entrance to a secret room seriously.  Hardly anyone will figure this one out.

04 - garage-door-650x466Secret Garage Security Door

This is as much about making the house look good as it is keeping your 4 x 4 safe from prying eyes.

Hans Solo security doorHan Solo  - Secret Door Bookcase

A really cool added feature for all the Star War fans out there. It's a bookcase hidden door, but the back of the door has the added feature of the Han Solo image from the third movie, when he was frozen in carbonite!

security doors susssexThe Main Library Secret Door

You know the old adageabout the best place to hide a tree – in a forest.  This is the same principle, the hidden book case door taken to extremes.  Your average intruder has very little chance of spotting this little gem, if no other reason than they usually avoid libraries as a matter of principle.

Home Theater Ticket Booth Hidden Door

This is my all time favourite.  Not because it’s so well hidden (which it actually is), but because it’s so blatantly appropriate.  Hiding the door to a home cinema room behind a fake ticket booth.  Love it.

Roller Shutters In Worthing and Sussex - Keeping You Safe in Your Home

It's an uncomfortable fact of life that in modern Britain, if you have anything of value, someone out there will feel they have the right to take it from you. Fortunately, there is an entire industry devoted to producing security products that provide deterrents to frighten off the thieves and vandals who, for for their own selfish reasons, want to steal and damage what belongs to others.

garage doors worthing
Of the range of security products available on the market, one of the most effective is the roller shutter.  It's a positive and very solid physical barrier for both doors and windows of any size, and the modern colours and designs availsblr nowadays mean the unattractive sheets of steel making a property look like a military camp are long gone. The shutters are manufactured to look stylish and in keeping with the property they're installed in, making them ideal for use in homes, including as garage doors,

Roller Shutters Sussex

The roller shutters you see in and around Worthing and Sussex nowadays may surprise you.  Look closely around the town and as well as being installed in homes you'll see them used as:
  • Shutters on shop doors and windows.
  • Roller shutter doors on industrial units and factories.
  • Electric garage doors.
  • Fire doors and shutters.
  • Storm and weather protection shutters.

roller shutters sussex
Companies specialising in domestic and home security are also starting to include roller shutters as part of their recommended protection measures. This is quite a development from their traditional range of intrusion detection and alarm systems, but with the knowledge that most people ignore alarms and many intruders are adept at overcoming ordinary door and window locks, the solid steel roller shutter, latched and locked from inside, is one of the most effective security solutions now available.  As well as being a good deterrent, it can actually resist a determined attempt to gain access.  So rather than trying to frighten off an intruder who has already caused damage by breaking in, roller shutters prevent them from ever getting inside in the first place.

Garage Doors for Worthing

Garage doors can often be overlooked when considering the security of a home.  This seems a little strange as the contents of the garage can often contain some of the most valuable items a family owns.  Cars, along with expensive items like tools and gym equipment, can be an attractive haul for many thieves looking for a quick result.  By fitting roller shutters as the garage doors, the garage can be transformed into one of the most secure areas of the home.

An additional feature of the shutters worth considering is that they also offer excellent protection from fire.  If roller shutters are included as part of the fire control system in a building, they can hold back flames and heat much longer than wooden fire doors.

Finally, shutters are also excellent insulators.  They keep warmth in, and the wind, rain and cold air out, and by so doing contribute significantly to making homes more comfortable, reduce heating costs and making them more cost efficient.
